Snowy get away -
After a precarious journey in heavy snow to Calcutts House, we were given a very warm welcome. Our room was spacious and full of character. The large four poster bed gave us a sound night\'s sleep, after an energetic afternoon and evening exploring the area in the thick snow. The location was idyllic. Only a short walk to Ironbridge and a range of attractions. The breakfast was delicious, freshly cooked to order with top notch quality produce, perfectly cooked. Sarah and James were very welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. I would definitely go again. Thanks, Sarah and James.

Wonderful Stay! -
We visit Telford once a year for the IPMS Scale ModelWorld Show and we have stayed at Calcutts House every year for over 10 years. In that time we have probably been in every room and every one has been warm (even in the middle of November), extremely clean and comfortable. The breakfast is tasty, varied and substantial and nothing is too much trouble. The house sits in a beautiful area, close to the river. It is quiet and tranquil yet ideally situated for the local areas of interest and Telford. We always book ahead for next year as we enjoy ourselves so much. I would highly recommend Calcutts House if you are visiting this interesting part of the country.

Its taken a while for us to get round to reviewing Calcutts House but better late than never. We had a fine welcome from the owner who made us feel at home and comfortable immediately he spoke to us.The location could not be bettered for us as it was central to all the Ironbridge attractions we wanted to visit at the same time being only a few minutes pleasant walk to the Ironbridge itself.Calcutts House is clean and fresh with a lovely garden and very private. Breakfast was delicious and well presented and the hotelier had just the right balance between being helpful, informative and friendly at the same time as being very aware that clients sometimes need their own space.We\'d stay there again without question.Oh yes, must mention the parking which felt very safe and not visible from the road. Many thanks for a very happy stay.

Calcutts House is a very attractive old house full of character and yet comfortable and welcoming and ideally located for exploring The Iron Gorge Heritage Museums. We travelled as two mature couples one of which from overseas on a visit to the UK. We both enjoyed our stay and felt very welcome by our host James from the moment we arrived. We stayed in the upper rooms of the stable bloc and if I wanted to nit pic I would say that the ensuites we rather cramped, however the price of the rooms reflect this and our stay was very pleasant and comfortable nevertheless. We stayed overnight enroute from Pembrokshire back to Durham, having never previously visited Ironbridge. The Calcutts House is only a mile away from the Ironbridge- a delightful walk along an old railway track, close to the river Severn, so ideally situated for sightseeing. The B&B welcomed our dog, as well as us. We had a lovely room in the Old coachhouse, breakfast was fresh fruit salad, Greek yoghourt, and perfectly cooked, good quality full English breakfast from a good selection of bacon, egg, sauagae, mushroom, tomato, black pudding etc. Even the toast was really good bread. We even left with a flask of hot tea for the journey. The venue itself is a beautifully restored Grade 2 building, with lots of thoughtful attention to detail to make a visitor\'s life more comfortable. We had a coffee on the patio on arrival, and enjoyed a late night drink there- for less clement evenings, there is a residents\' lounge. We will visit again, and can heartily recommend James and Sarah as very friendly hosts.

After a fairly heavy three months this year we were looking for a comfortable place to stay in peaceful surroundings and in an area we had not visited before. We found this and much more at Calcutts House. A very comfortable bedroom, excellent breakfasts, a warm welcome and hosts who were most helpful and very peaceful surroundings gave us just what we were looking for. We certainly hope to return one day.

Fine addition to the \"Ironbridge Experience\" -
A warm welcome into an interesting house with a traditional English lounge for guests to use and enjoy at leisure. The real asset of Calcutts House, in the village of Jackfield, is its very convenient location just outside Ironbridge but still very close to the attractions. The view from the house is delightful, it\'s close to the interesting Jackfield Tile Museum (also an important part of the heritage of the area) and close to the excellent quality and outstandingly good value cooking of the Black Swan pub. There is no hesitation recommending this B&B

Wonderful old 18th Century house to get you in the right mind set for visiting historic Ironbridge. Nice hosts, lovely bedroom and great breakfasts. On a practical note, plenty of safe parking at the rear of the house and the Tile factory is just around the corner. We stayed two nights and it took us 2 1/2 days to get around all the Museum\'s sites in the area, so you need at least two days minimum if your there to visit the Museum/sites. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Calcutts House four years ago, and chose it again for its comfort and convenience as a good stopping point on the way west or north. The B&B has changed hands since our last visit, but the high standard is the same:welcoming host serving tea in the lounge, good parking, nicely appointed room, good breakfast. Wifi spotty in the coach house but fine in the house proper. We would certain return to Calcutts.

Enjoyed a fantastic visit to Calcutts House. Situated on the picturesque banks of the River Severn it is a lovely building with lots of character. Our room was superb decorated in period style with great attention to detail. All of the premises were spotlessly cleaned and the breakfast was excellent quality, one of the best we\'ve ever had. Calcutts House is in the perfect position to visit all that Ironbridge has to offer. The owners James and Sarah were excellent hosts and provided a great cooked breakfast, the porridge was really good, and there was always a cup of tea ready for you. Nothing was too much trouble. I would change my choice of room if I stayed again. The Coach House is just as described and I should have realised that it would be too low and small for us. My own fault for not reading the details. I would definitely return to Calcutts House if we visit Ironbridge again.

Upon arrival at well before booking in time, we were met by James and Sarah who said the room was ready and we could book in.We stopped in the William of orange room, which is a room away from the main house but absolutely beautiful. The room was clean, smelt beautiful with clean, crisp sheets!!! Lovely room with ensuite and massive shower! Personal touches in the bathroom and tea/coffee facilities were lovely but as a great big tea drinker u would have been nice to have a mug, although I know had I asked I know one would be provided. Within minutes of arriving James was keen to explain about booking evening meals in advance as the area was busy, a very nice personal touch. The area around the b and b was clean, tidy and the garden well looked after which was a bonus as we chose to sit in the window for breakfast to look at it!Breakfast was pre booked the night before. A full selection was offered, including omelettes and porridge. The porridge was to die for and we were offered all different types on things to go in it. Nice touch! Fresh fruit salad, yoghurts, juice and cerrals were all on offer. Cooked breakfast was plentiful, hot and good produce. Delivered to the table with us being referred to by name, again a lovely touch. I cannot recommend this place enough, a beautiful b and situated in a lovely spot, lovely accommodation and very attentive hosts..Thoroughly recommend this, you will not be disappointed.Five star accommodation and service!

The room was spotlessly clean and the bed was comfy. We were going to have the dog sleep in the car but were told that he was more than welcome to stay in the room with us as we were in the Coach House and apart from the main house where the owners' own dog lives. We had arrived early and were just going to ask if we could park up and take a walk until check-in time, but were told we could check in whenever we wanted as the room was ready. We were then served tea in the garden;you don't think about it really but it was just what we needed and a lovely, lovely touch.Breakfast was selected the night before and served in the main house, which is just gorgeous - every attention to detail has been paid and, again, immaculately clean.Breakfast was wonderful - a huge bowl of fresh fruit salad with Greek yoghurt, honey and dried fruits, cereals and juices. The cooked breakfast ordered the night before was simply stunning;good quality produce cooked to perfection and (so importantly!) piping hot.We felt welcome and at home whilst being attended to beautifully.Thank you;we would love to come back.

The rooms were lovely - really cosy, beautifully decorated and clean. I felt like I was going home to my own bedroom after a day's work (except the room at Calcutts was much cleaner and tidier!). James and Sarah were absolutely lovely. They were really kind and welcoming, and really looked after us, but also gave us the right amount of space. They were spot-on hosts. The breakfasts were also really, really good! I am a vegetarian and I was cooked a special veggie breakfast. So tasty! We felt so rested there that we really didn't want to leave and we will all be coming back with our families for a proper holiday there! I would definitely recommend Calcutts. It's super lovely!

Just returned from a wonderful weekend trip to the Iron-bridge, Shropshire. We booked a stay at The Calcutts House and was given one of the out buildings attic rooms. The room was warm, cozy, clean &comfortable and the owners were very friendly &welcoming. We would recommend staying at the Calcutts House to anyone wishing to explore the Iron-bridge &surrounding attractions, although if you are tall I would suggest you ask when booking the size of room as the attic room was great for us but would not suit tall people so worth mentioning prior to booking. Other than that 5* all round.

Great B&B -
This is so much more than a B&B. We were given a warm and friendly welcome with tea in the guest sitting room. The rooms are individual, well appointed, clean and with the quirkiness expected of older properties. Our huge four poster bed was magnificent! Breakfast was superb - freshly cooked as we arrived in the dining room.By the time we left we felt as though we'd spent the night at the home of some good friends - Sarah and James really go out of their way to provide a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere!

Great Stay -
This is a lovely place to stay off of the main roads.Walking is easy and very beautiful to enjoy. The room was nice and our hosts were excellent.Breakfast was great.Walking to Ironbridge was on a very flat and well maintained path.Well worth the time to visit this historic town with very good museums. I would recommend Calcutts House to stay.

Calcuts House -
There's no where to put travelling as two female friends but that's what we were doing! The accommodation, breakfast and location were excellent. We couldn't find anything to complain about at all.Everything clean and locally sourced food. After a lovely greeting and welcome brew we were given a map of the local area and having asked were pointed in the direction of a nice pub to eat.If I ever go to Iron Bridge again I would stay there again.

My wife and I stayed two nights at the end of July. The web site stated 20 mins walk to all locations and it was;much better than staying in Ironbridge itself. There is easy walks most off road to all museums from this location. We were greeted warmly up arrival and the room was all it looked to be on the web site.Very pleasant breakfast.Would recommend to my friends to visit.Plenty of places to eat in the evening within easy walking distance.

Excellent b&b -
The room was lovely and clean and comfortable, despite warnings of head height I am 6ft 3 and I was fine. Breakfast fantastic with a lovely fresh fruit salad, gardens really pretty, owners couldn't be more friendly or accommodating without being in your face with it. Really close to Ironbridge so don't be put off that it isn't directly "in town". Will definitely return

Pleasant Ironbridge B&B -
My wife, 2 kids (15 and 13), and I stayed in two rooms at Calcutts in late June 2013. My wife and I stayed in one room and my kids stayed in another. The rooms were spacious and clean. The included breakfast was tasty and the service, like the service overall was good. Plus the staff at Calcutts was friendly and helpful if asked for advice or assistance. The price for 2 rooms for 2 nights was very reasonable and the location is great. I would recommend Calcutts for anyone visiting Ironbridge Gorge. If I was objective, I might give Calcutts 4 stars, but for the price, you have to give it 5. I couldn't book a second room online because I couldn't get a second room for 2 consecutive nights but when I called, they were able to get us 2 rooms for 2 nights. We just had to have my kids move from one to another for the 2nd night. Bottom line, when contacted directly, they were able to meet our needs when the arrangements weren't conventional.

Alexander Brodie Suite -
From the first moment of our arrival we were made to feel totally at ease by Sarah and James. James welcomed us with a warm and friendly greeting, and offered us a much needed cup of coffee, then lead us to our spectacular room.It was almost like stepping back in time with the huge four poster bed dominating the room. The decor matched its style although the en suite bathroom was anything but Victorian. A beautiful shower unit with piping hot water with a powerful spray, brilliant!! We had a very peaceful quiet night and slept like logs!Breakfast next morning was more of a feast than a breakfast. With the offer of extra toast and the endless cups of coffee, we were fit to bust by the time we had finished! We cannot speak highly enough of Calcutts House nor of Sarah and James. They are the friendliest hosts we have ever met with nothing being any trouble at all.The house is set in its own grounds overlooking the Gorge itself with each room having a terrific view. There really cannot be a better place to stay in the Ironbridge area with all of the museums being close by and several really friendly pubs just down the road.We WILL be back again and again without a doubt. Thanks VERY MUCH again to Sarah and James for making our stay wonderful.

great easter weekend -
Just got back form an excellent stay at The Calcutts House. Beautiful big house in Jackfield, walking distance from the high street and all the attractions in the Gorge. James, Sarah and the mad Welsh Terrier gave a warm welcome to a cold weekend;a much needed pot of tea was offered on arrival. We stayed in the smaller James Glazebrook Room, upstairs in the old converted coach house. Room was clean and well set out, however the sloping roof means if your tall, you may want to stay in one of the larger rooms as the shower it a little cramped. Breakfast was excellent. Could not recommend staying here enough.

I found this B&B purely by chance, but have to say it was a pleasure to stay at Calcutts. The hosts were extremely friendly, and the breakfasts were lovely, the cooked breakfasts must have been cooked upon ones appearance in the breakfast room as they were always servedhot and hadn't been left on a warming plate! The rooms are well kept and clean with good ensuite facilities including hand wash, shower gel etc.The location itself is great for all of the local museums. We also drove into Ludlow which was well worth the trip.

Couldn't Have Chosen Better -
My wife and myself were visiting the area for the weekend as part of a "One-name Family History Society"annual reunion. We booked Calcutts House on-line purely from reviews we had read.On arrival, we were warmly greeted with a pot of tea.The whole house was full of character, being over 200 years old, including the furniture and bare oak flooring. Our room also reflected this as we had a comfortable four-poster bed. There was a good choice of breakfast which included fresh fruit salad, of which we are fans, with offers of "seconds"if we wanted it.Nothing was too much trouble in this friendly and comfortable guest house. To put the icing on the cake, the rest of our group stayed at the other end of the town in a well-known "chain"hotel. We heard nothing but complaints from them about the place including small rooms with tiny high-up windows that overlooked a corridor, ie no natural light, and the rooms and food were very expensive - much more than we paid at Calcutts. The last word goes to the guide that our group had for the visitor attractions around the town.As we passed Calcutts House on our way to the Jackfield Tile museum he pointed out that Calcutts House was excellent and highly recommended. He did not say anything about any other establishment. My wife and myself echo the guide - Calcutss House is "Highly recommended"!

We spent one night at Calcutt House in Aug 2012, we were made very welcome, had a very comfortable ensuite four poster bedroom and a delicious breakfast in a spacious and welcoming breakfast room. It was our first stay over in Ironbridge and Calcutt House is minutes awayfrom all the excellent museums and restaurants, its a beautiful area for walking too.The owners Sarah and James did everything to make our stay ahappy one and we would of course give our recommondation.
